My Kuching trip - highlights

At last, the long awaited time has come... it's been such a long time that I've not take a break. And what we Malaysian always loves to do when clearing their leave is to TRAVEL which I'm going to do...and my destination this time is the state on the East side of Malaysia...Kuching, Sarawak. I've never been to Sabah or Sarawak for my entire life and this shall the first time travelling there...excited!

Even though it's still Malaysia, but I'm pretty sure there must be something different from the West...and since we are on our own this time, thank to Air Asia, thus have ask my sis to gather as much info so that we can.

Sis have booked the budget hotel for us, Tune Hotel located at Kuching Waterfront which is also at the center of Kuching Town...save us a lot of hassle as it is only 15 mins drive from Kuching airport.

Tune Hotel at Kuching is just newly opened in Feb 2009, thus you can expect things to be still in pretty good condition. I quite like this place, very IKEA feel to me...I suspect the furniture and decor are really from IKEA...

Picture of me at various part of the hotel...Ehemm, I feel like I'm doing free ads for them...Hahaha!! Why not? Since all good things are meant to be share

Inside our room...everything is simple, love it

Okie, done with the story of the hotel, Let's continue to the next part which I think it's the most important ***FOOD***.

One of the staple dishes that can practically be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner is Kolo Mee which you can find it at every corner in Kuching. Something fascinated me that, there were 101 style of serving it. Each stall have their unique way even though the egg noodles is the same. Some of them will come together with slices of Char Siew, minced pork, prawns, pork ball, pork liver, greens, fried crispy shallots and spring onion...

Other Sarawak's specialty is the Sarawak style prawn mee which I feel very peppery, Sarawak Laksa - not bad, Fried Keoy Teow with Tomato sauce and Mee Sapi - malay style mee kolo with slices of beef

Paku Pakis - another special vege from Sarawak which seems to be appearing on out dining table quite often in Kuching...normally cooked together with belacan and dried shrimp

More food...O Jien, sarawak style, so special...it's crispy and shape like a bowl. Grilled chicken butt and chicken gizzard, interested for a bite? Sayur manis - another Sarawak special vege. Nasi ayam penyet.

Kek lapis, beautifully colorful cake with assorted flavor...

Pepper sweet? Taste like hacks or fisherman friend...Yuckks, I don't like it because I don't like hacks nor fisherman friend

What's more important than shopping. There were quite a lot of souvenier selling shop located at Kuching town...But please be extra careful, some shops might be slighty expensive than another. Do check out a few shops before buying...

Kuching local snack, selling at average RM1.20 each packet...

Cutie Sarawak people in their cultural custome magnet...

Places we go...Numerous muzeums...

Sarawak Cultural Village...where we can experience how it's feel like staying in various type of long house...each of then were built with different concept..and we can also see how their lifestyle is...

We are lucky enough as that it as during the World Harvest Festival. WHF is an ethnic festival that is one of the highlights of the Gawai Dayak celebrations. So there were a lot of cultural shows for us to see...

My encounter with the world's larget flower...Rafflesia

Seeing an orang utan in this near distance...kinda scared actually...heard from one of the people that were once the orang utan accidentally fall down in front of the tourist...both were shocked, Hahaha...

Tuak, their traditional rice wine...

Chilling out at the cafe nearby...SCOOPS

Barok Bistro...

Some of the few places to hangout at night which sis managed to find thru blog is this bla bla bla...and THE JUNK, but too bad, they were off when we were there on the day before we fly back to KL...

Last place we go before heading to Airport, Cat Muzeum...meow~~

Our family photos...feeling kinda warm as a family...but there so many strange voices were made, meow~~ meow~~

...suddenly wow!! wow!! wwwrrrrrr.....

Shogun @ One U

Shogun and Saisaki - which I'm sure everyone of us have been there before and where I used to go a lot last time...Those were the time where Jogoya or even Tenji not exist yet...Shogun and Saisaki were considered a very well known Japanese buffet chain at that time...

I don't know why...is it because of Tenji and Jogoya? I feel that the quality has dropped during my visit this time with my ex-coll...Food were not that nice anymore, even the choices were not as much. I still remembered I used to enjoyed every bit of the food here...not anymore, even my friend feel the same...

Or is it due to the cheapo promo? 30% off for lunch and 50% of for dinner which is only valid from Mon to Thur...and I'm here on Thurs, hahaha...We thought that were not much people since the econmony were bad...Surprisingly, the place were fully packed...

Starter, century egg and pickled ginger...

Baby octopus...

Healthy food...Edame beans..

Raw stuff for starters...

Can't get enough of salmon...more salmon..

Oyster...

Assorted sushi...when you see that orangy colour, you already know how much I loved Salmon!!Oiishii!!

Some steamed and oriental food...

Grilled and Fried stuff, tempura, escargot, soft shell crab...

Could not take it anymore...continue with the dessert...colorful ice cream...

Assorted mini cakes and mochi...

Fruits and Konyaku jelly...

Overall we don't really enjoyed the meal but there's something more important than that. I still remember one of my friend saying...It doesn't matter if the food is delicious, or how expensive is the food...The matter most is the companion that goes with the food...We laugh and laugh till our tears come out...Sai lei lehh...Thank you friend!!! Really glad to have you all as my friend..

Purple Cane Tea Restaurant

One of the restaurant which is on my "wanted to go" list is this "Purple Cane Tea Restaurant", which I finally have the chance to go last Sunday...hehehe...I started to get to know bout this interesting place is when I saw the one which is @ Gardens...I guess that is the most famous one whereby it was featured on countless lifestyle magazine and also tv show...

At that time, I were already very tempted to go, but with such a high class interior, I'm worried it will cost a bomb which is such a wrong thinking...

I have already read too much review about this place and I'm sure I already know this place very well..It can't be a mistake anymore and I tell myself that I need try it out!! I actually wanted to go to the one which is at The KL & Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, but the parking were fully occupied thus changed my plan and head to the one which is Shaw Parade...

If you still don't know yet, let me tell you more about this place that every single dishes here is cooked with tea..sounds interesting? And you know what? That the main ability of tea is to absorb all the excessive oil which make the food more healthier to you...

To start with our tea experience meal, this is our snacks, braised peanuts and pickled papaya...

Our Jasmine tea...the fragrance were so nice, I've never taste any tea this nice...

Homemade Braised Beancurd in Tea Sauce (Dong Ding Oolong), you must be thinking that it must be taste wierd when the dishes is cooked with tea, then I must say that you are absolutely wrong...suprisingly it blanded really well... I started to fell in love with it...

Homemade Pan Fried egg with tomato, prawn and tea mill (Tie Guan Yin) which I really like too...there were actually alots of prawns hiding in the egg...

Stir fried bittergourd with salted egg and tea mill (Tie Guan Yin), the bittergourd were so crunchy, and with the generous serving of the salted egg, you don't fell any bitter at all...I actually wanted to try the Stir fried bittergourd with ham choy, but don't why my brain has send the signal to my mouth to order for otherwise...

Even their rice is cooked together with green tea...

Feeling greedy and wanted more, we ordered for the dessert to try...which is also contains tea...

Green tea peanut paste and Almond beancurds in black tea...

Overall, it was a great experince eating here...Price were considered reasonable for me as the portion were actually enough to feed you full...considered here as a place where you can find for healthy yet delicious food, I will definetely come back for more...

And FYI, HSBC card holder can get 10% discount on the total bill...
